In her address at the ‘eyeforpharma’ Barcelona virtual conference, digital startup guru Jessica Federer said that the COVID-19 pandemic presents an opportunity for digital health companies to prove their worth.
They also have an opportunity to elevate the status of digital health solutions as the standard of care when dealing with infectious diseases.
She also said that companies working in areas such as electronic health record sharing, AI/natural language processing of literature related to COVID-19 and telecare, have a key role in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Given the quarantine situation, more people are willing to try digital solutions for their non-urgent medical conditions.
If these people have positive experiences with a healthcare app there is a chance they might stick to it rather than go out and wait in line at the doctor’s office.
But digital health companies must first demonstrate their core capabilities and what they can do better than anyone else, especially in times of crisis.
3 KEY POINTS
“This is the time they get to prove what they can do if given the opportunity, and if they take advantage of that opportunity they have the chance to change the status quo – to make digital health solutions the standard of care when it comes to infectious disease, at the very least,” says digital startup guru Jessica Federer.
